New Deadline for Contractors to Get Their Lead RRP Certification Nears. The EPA Beginnings Taking Enforcement Actions on October 1, 2010
CALINC Training reminds contractors that EPA enforcement actions for violations of the RRP Rule's firm certification requirement begin October 1, 2010 and stresses the need to get certified to avoid penalties.

VACAVILLE, CA, September 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- CALINC Training, the primary provider of lead-based RRP certification in Central and Northern California reminds all contractors of the need to get certified by October 1, 2010 to avoid penalties when working on projects for pre-1978 dwellings that disturb lead based paint.

CALINC Training is the largest provider of RRP certification in Northern California, having certified over 2,600 RRP students so far in 2010. They regularly host courses to train and certify contractors in accordance with the EPA's Renovation, Repair and Painting Final Rule (40 CRF 745). CALINC Training is the environmental training division of CAL INC, one of California's premier environmental services and general construction firms.

Under this rule, contractors and property managers performing RRP projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 are required to take the eight-hour certification course, and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination in all projects. The course covers the health effects, regulations, lead safe work practices, containment, cleaning & record keeping requirements. This course were developed by the U.S. EPA in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to train contractors and dust sampling technicians on how to comply with the EPA's RRP rule and HUD's Lead Safe Housing rule.

"CALINC Training is proud of our track record as the largest accredited training center providing the RRP certification course in Northern CA," stated CAL INC president and CEO David Esparza. "Our goal is to continue working with the EPA and all contractors and property managers in Northern California to reduce the risk of childhood lead poisoning, and eventually eliminate this preventable disease."

Contractors who work in pre-1978 dwellings and who might disturb painted surfaces while doing plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, tile, window replacement, landscaping, repairs, construction, renovation, remodeling, HVAC, demolition, plus many other jobs should take this course and achieve certification. The RRP rule also applies to people who work for rental property owners, schools, and day care providers as well as non-profits and government agencies.
