Nelson K. Eldridge Named 2010 Professional of the Year
Nelson K. Eldridge, Deputy Fire Chief, celebrates over 50 years with Nantucket Fire Department

NANTUCKET, MA, May 7, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nelson K. Eldridge, Deputy Fire Chief for the Nantucket Fire Department, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Emergency Response. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.

With unparalleled expertise in emergency response, Nelson K. Eldridge celebrates over 50 years with the Nantucket Fire Department in Massachusetts. Appointed Deputy Fire Chief in April of 1994, Mr. Eldridge has been charged with overseeing Nantucket's fire services and emergency response team for the past 16 years. In addition to supervising six volunteer firefighters, he is responsible for teaching first aid techniques including cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Not only does he supply his department with training, he also travels to a local hospital to provide emergency response instruction.

During a candid interview with a representative from Cambridge Publishing, he recalled his early years with the Nantucket Fire Department. In 1959, the department managed six calls per year. As of 2009, calls have jumped in volume to 192 annually, he remarked. Prior to joining the Department, Mr. Eldridge worked as a professional, licensed plumber.

Mr. Eldridge completed industry-related coursework at both the State Fire Academy and National Fire Academy. He was a certified EMT and is the vice president of the Nantucket Fireman's Association.
